About the Role

The core of this position is to support and challenge every student to achieve their full potential and academic success through strong classroom practice. As a Design Technology Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching across all age and ability ranges, ensuring that your students make progress that is as good as or better than similar students nationally. This involves planning sequences of lessons that align with the National Curriculum while utilising research-based teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of all pupils. Beyond the workshop, you will act as a role model by assuming responsibility for a tutor group, contributing to the school’s extra-curricular programme, and helping to organise educational visits. You will also work closely with the head of department to deliver improvement priorities and take an active part in the wider CSET professional development programme.

The DT department has a broad and engaging curriculum which both supports and challenges students throughout. Our key stage three curriculum develops knowledge and skills which support the four GCSE subjects led by the department: Engineering Design, Engineering, Food and Nutrition and Art Textiles. At KS4 we offer a wide range of subjects. The role would best suit a candidate with specialism in product design, engineering or textiles.

About you

We are looking for a qualified teacher with QTS who possesses a clear passion for Design Technology and a strong commitment to sharing this subject with young people. You should have a detailed working knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements and the pedagogical skill to translate this into engaging, deep learning experiences. Because building a positive community is vital, you must be a personable and approachable professional who can quickly establish warm relationships with both students and colleagues across the Trust. We value staff who are proactive and agile, demonstrating a "can-do" approach to meet the changing needs of the school environment. Additionally, you should be proficient in using ICT in the classroom and maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection legislation.

Mangotsfield School has been recognised by Ofsted as a “rapidly improving, community focused, ambitious school.” In March 2022 we were awarded Good in all categories, a testament to the vision and dedication of the leadership and teaching body.

Mangotsfield School has a strong ethos built on our four values. In all aspects of school life we encourage students to love learning, embrace challenge, give and earn respect and grow our community. Our classrooms, our corridors and our systems are built on these values: this supports our culture where we can meet individual needs and close the gaps for our students.

Mangotsfield School is a local secondary school firmly rooted in, and proudly working within, the community which it serves. The school is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings on the north-eastern outskirts of Bristol. Mangotsfield School became an academy as part of the Castle School Education Trust in September 2015 and works in partnership with Downend School to deliver 16-19 opportunities for all students. We are committed to the professional development of all staff.

We can offer you:

  • Commitment to CPD and development of all staff
  • Commitment to inclusivity and fostering of diversity
  • Values and vision that are lived not laminated
  • Open and honest culture
  • Up to 30% discount with Microsoft & Dell
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Life Assurance - 3 x Death in Service
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Dedicated counselling service

In order to apply for this role please complete an application form by 2nd March, 9am. Please let us know if you require any adjustments as part of the process.
