About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to lead and develop our busy palletised network in our Whetstone Depot. This is a fantastic opportunity for a transport professional who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment and has a strong focus on service delivery, compliance, efficiency, and team leadership.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our transport function, ensuring the safe, compliant, and cost-effective movement of freight while consistently meeting customer and network performance expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily transport operation, ensuring all collections and deliveries are completed safely and efficiently.
- Oversee fleet utilisation, route planning, and resource allocation to maximise operational performance.
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings, driver hours regulations, Working Time Directive, and all transport legislation.
- Monitor and achieve Palletline service KPIs, delivery performance, and network requirements.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of drivers and transport planner.
- Manage driver performance, training, recruitment, and disciplinary processes where necessary.
- Control transport costs, fuel performance, vehicle utilisation, and operational budgets.
- Investigate and resolve customer service issues, delivery failures, and transport-related queries.
- Work closely with warehouse, and senior management teams to continually improve operational efficiency.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety throughout the transport operation.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in a Transport Manager role within palletised distribution, general haulage, or a Palletline/partner network environment.
- A valid CPC National Qualification in Road Haulage. (Preferred but not essential)
- Strong knowledge of transport legislation, driver hours, tachographs, and Operator Licence compliance.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience leading and managing transport teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across the business.
- A proactive and hands-on management style.
- Good IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
