About this role

To provide an excellent standard of rehabilitation services to injured Professional Development Phase players within an interdisciplinary team environment.

Core responsibilities

  • Lead injury/illness audit within the Professional Development Phase in collaboration with the Academy Head of Medical and Academy Head of Performance.
  • Develop CPFC Academy principles of rehabilitation in collaboration with Academy Head of Physiotherapy.
  • Communicate effectively with Academy medical team and other key support staff (performance, technical, player care) to provide a holistic, leading standard of rehabilitation service to Professional Development Phase players.
  • Contribute to coordination of the daily and long‑term schedules for injured Professional Development Phase players.
  • Collate injury/illness audit reports for dissemination to Academy support staff.
  • Oversee, in conjunction with the Academy Head of Physiotherapy, the development of Academy rehabilitation principles that align with the broader CPFC rehabilitation philosophy.
  • Provide an excellent standard of assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to injured Professional Development Phase players.
  • Successfully rehabilitate players from plank to pitch in a progressive, objective, and functional manner that restores them to at least their previous level of performance and reduces risk of re‑injury.
  • Demonstrate excellence in using objective markers specific to sport, individual, and injured tissue.
  • Use a broad range of rehabilitation approaches, including manual therapy, electrotherapy, gym‑based, hydrotherapy and pitch‑based methods.
  • Provide support to the U18 and U21 Physiotherapists as required.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by line manager.
  • Uphold and promote club policies on health and safety, safeguarding, and equal opportunities.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Established record of successfully rehabilitating injured professional football players.
  • Post‑graduate experience
  • BSc in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC and CSP registration
  • Up‑to‑date ATMMIF qualification
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary environment in a professional sports setting, preferably football (including academy).
  • Significant experience using clinical, gym and pitch‑based objective measures to inform clinical decision making in rehabilitation.
  • Evidence of completion of the FA Safeguarding Children course.
  • Post‑graduate university qualification in a related subject or a plan to pursue one.
  • Knowledge of current sports injury and rehabilitation research.
  • Knowledge of assessment, treatment, and diagnosis of sports injuries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of rehabilitation and injury reduction strategies.
  • Caring, positive and enthusiastic nature with players and staff.
  • Decisive – able to make decisions based on sound reasoning and communicate them clearly and appropriately with players and staff.
  • Conscientious, composed, organised, and a team player.
  • Flexible, especially in terms of the hours required.
