About This Role
The Media Relations Manager is primarily responsible for coordinating and managing the delivery of the club’s contracted media requirements for the men’s first-team, as well as securing additional media coverage for the club, its staff and players. On a day-to-day basis, the successful candidate will work with our players to ensure the club meets its contractual media activity, and be required to work at all of the club’s home and away matches. The role requires close liaison with media rights holders (such as Sky, TNT, BBC, and international broadcasters), the Premier League, UEFA, FA, EFL, national and local media, as well as internal stakeholders, to ensure all media appearances represent the club and its players in a positive light, and meets the needs of media partners. The successful candidate will be supported by our Head of Media Relations, and external comms agency as required. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has passion for sports media, is highly organized, has exceptional communication skills and a candidate with experience in building strong relationships in an elite sporting environment. The chosen candidate will possess a tireless work ethic, a ‘can do’ attitude, and have exemplary attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Managing and delivering the Premier League & UEFA media rights contract, fulfilling the obligations of the playing squad with UK and overseas broadcast rights holders, ensuring compliance with all contractual match week media obligations.
- Managing and delivering matchday media obligations at all home and away matches ensuring compliance with matchday protocols.
- Managing and delivering, in conjunction with Premier League Studios, non-match related contractual obligations, such as pre-and mid-season media access days, extended interviews, ‘masterclasses’ and ‘behind-the-scenes’ sessions.
- Developing strong relationships with key personnel at the Premier League, Premier League Studios, and broadcast partners.
- Identifying and managing pro-active, non-contractual media activity to deliver positive PR for players and the club.
- Researching and producing briefing materials ahead of all media activity for players/interviewees.
- Discussing media opportunities and requirements with players.
- Ensuring new and emerging players are aware of media requirements and expectations.
- Develop and maintain a strong relationship with the club’s Player Liaison team to co-ordinate additional activity, including community and commercial initiatives – using media opportunities to showcase the wider work of the club.
- Managing day to day media enquiries, and conduct daily media monitoring alongside the club’s appointed media agency, liaising internally and escalating to the Chairman and Executive team as necessary.
- Working as part of a wider Marketing & Communications team - attending weekly meetings to discuss and share work streams/creative ideas/campaign planning, supporting marketing and club media initiatives.
- Overseeing the Press Office Administrator (part-time role) in managing the media operations on matchdays, the PL and UEFA media accreditation system and be responsible for logistics for the manager’s pre-match press conferences.
- Supporting the Marketing & Comms executive for the Women’s team at key points of the season. Please note the Media Relations Manager is not required to attend Women’s or Academy matchdays.
- Distributing club announcements/releases to media database and monitor the media enquiries email.
