We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our catering team. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the kitchen and associated areas are kept clean, tidy, and well-organised at all times. This includes managing the efficient washing and storage of crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils, as well as contributing to food preparation and general kitchen maintenance. Ensuring a safe and hygienic environment is a critical part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, efficient wash-up cycle of crockery, cutlery, and kitchenware.
  • Ensure all kitchen and food prep areas are kept clean and tidy in line with the cleaning schedule.
  • Assist with basic food preparation, including prepping vegetables.
  • Empty, clean, and restock dishwashers and ensure all crockery and cutlery are stored appropriately.
  • Ensure work surfaces, sinks, and floors are clean and free from clutter or hazards.
  • Empty waste bins, replace liners, and ensure waste is disposed of safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Follow food storage guidelines, ensuring compliance with food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Assist in maintaining kitchen stock levels, including re-filling dishwasher liquid and notifying the team when supplies need reordering.
  • Report any maintenance issues or equipment faults promptly to the appropriate team.
  • Co-operate with statutory inspections and implement any recommendations made.
  • Ensure all kitchen laundry is collected and transferred to the appropriate facilities at the end of shift.
  • Adhere to all company policies, including Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (SOVA), Data Protection, and Confidentiality policies.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Comply fully with Health and Safety, Environmental Health, COSHH, and RIDDOR regulations.
  • Use all equipment and cleaning materials safely and correctly.
  • Identify and report any hazards or incidents immediately and complete appropriate forms as required.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for service users, colleagues, and visitors.

General Duties

  • Take part in required mandatory training, staff meetings, and supervision.
  • Participate in the company's appraisal and quality assurance processes.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties or training compatible with the role as requested by management.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to manage own workload and work under pressure.
  • Strong awareness of hygiene, safety, and cleanliness standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training and development.
