Location: Barnsley Fire Station, Broadway, Barnsley, S70 6QZ. Full‑time, 37 hours per week (flexi time). Permanent contract. Salary: £26,403–£28,142 (Grade 4).
Overall purpose: Provide efficient and effective administrative support to the Business Fire Safety Department, operating all office and administrative systems in accordance with SYFR procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing incoming mail
- Using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Handling telephone queries
- Reviewing internal applications to issue inspections to Business Fire Safety Inspectors and follow‑ups to fires and unwanted fire signals
- Allocating inspection and follow‑up work for inspectors
- Inputting and retrieving information from the database to assist in statistical reports
- Data cleansing
- Deputising for the Protection Administration Officer and acting as single point of contact in their absence
- Organising and taking minutes of regular departmental meetings
In addition to the key duties, the role requires previous supervisory experience and the ability to plan, manage, and prioritise workloads.
Qualifications:
- NVQ level 3 in Administration or equivalent
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook
- Proven experience in an accurate and efficient administrative role, meeting tight deadlines
