CRM Marketing Automation Specialist (Salesforce Marketing Cloud) in Brighton

Brighton Full-Time On-site
Crunch

Crunch is a multi-award winning Software as a Service (SaaS) company, born in the heart of Brighton with a brilliant team of 110, and over 40,000 users of our software.

Crunch isn’t your typical online accountancy firm. We’re a grassroots business built from the ground up, facing the same challenges as our clients. Since 2009, we’ve empowered thousands of small and medium sized businesses to take control of their finances with our simple, effective software, which includes real accountant support. Crunch takes the stress out of accounting, so our clients can focus on doing what they love!

About the role:

We're building a sharp, hands-on marketing team under a driven Director of Marketing, and this is one of the most important hires in it.

You'll own every email, text and customer journey that goes out of Crunch through Salesforce Marketing Cloud. You'll build them, test them, schedule them, send them, report on them and keep improving them. And you'll write the everyday copy yourself.

We sell software and service together, so every message we send has to be clear, accurate and worth opening.

This isn't an entry-level role. You'll need at least 4 years in CRM marketing, including at least 2 years hands-on in Salesforce Marketing Cloud. And as it's fully remote, you'll need to be someone who runs their own week well.

How you'll work with the team

You'll work closely with the Director of Marketing, our Content Marketing Manager and our designers. The Content Marketing Manager leads our journeys and core messaging, and we want your input, because you know what works and what engages. The everyday copy is yours, from reminders and chasers to texts, subject lines and test versions.

You'll start with our current email templates, but we know they need to evolve. You'll help rebuild them with our designers, bringing the email know-how that makes a design work in a real inbox, and you'll prove what works through testing. Your voice will be heard.

What you'll own

  • Building responsive HTML emails in Content Builder
  • Helping rebuild our email templates with our designers, so they're more engaging, on brand and proven in testing
  • Building and running journeys in Journey Builder, from the journey maps we agree together
  • Audiences and data, with SQL in Automation Studio and data extensions in Contact Builder, using data from Salesforce
  • Personalisation with AMPscript, with sensible fallbacks when data is missing
  • Texts through Mobile Studio, with consent and opt-outs set up to full compliance
  • Quality assurance on every send, aiming for right first time. That means rendering checks across desktop and mobile, iOS, Android and the main email apps, and making sure every link, click-through, UTM tag, personalisation field and opt-out works
  • Keeping the send calendar in check, so no customer gets messaged five times in a day
  • Deliverability, sender reputation and data hygiene
  • Reporting on what every send and journey delivers, including complaints and opt-outs as well as opens and clicks, and A/B testing templates, journeys and copy to find what works best
  • Being the go-to person for Marketing Cloud across Crunch, helping our product and customer operations teams get their emails and texts out right

What you'll bring

  • At least four years in CRM marketing, including at least two years building and sending in Salesforce Marketing Cloud yourself, not just managing people who do
  • Confidence with Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Content Builder and Email Studio
  • Working SQL and AMPscript, and clean HTML for email
  • You write clearly and well, and you're happy owning the everyday copy
  • An understanding of what makes an email design work in Outlook, in dark mode and with images turned off. You don't have to design, but you can guide it
  • Comfortable pulling images and assets out of Figma and optimising them for email
  • A real eye for detail. You own the quality of your work
  • You manage your own time well. You hit your deadlines, and if one's going to slip, you say so early and explain why
  • The confidence to push back on a weak brief
  • A good understanding of UK GDPR and PECR, the UK rules on data and on marketing emails and texts

Nice to have

  • Experience of other enterprise platforms such as Braze or Adobe Campaign
  • WhatsApp in Marketing Cloud
  • Einstein features, such as send time optimisation
  • Intelligence Reports and Advertising Studio
  • An eye on Marketing Cloud Next
  • A Salesforce Marketing Cloud certification
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, SaaS or another regulated industry

To be clear about what this isn't

  • It isn't a strategy or consulting role. We plan together, and you build and run it
  • It isn't a developer, architect or core Salesforce admin role
  • It isn't Account Engagement (Pardot)

How we hire:

We're an AI-positive company. We use AI to refine work, not to write our copy. The final interview includes a test without AI, so you can show us your own skills.

The test is scored and in person at our Brighton office. It's there to prove you have the hands-on Marketing Cloud capability and the writing skills to deliver this mission-critical role.

What you’ll get in return:

We’re very proud of our collaborative and inclusive working environment - you’ll be working as part of a fun and vibrant team, with a whole host of fantastic company benefits!

These include:

  • Fully remote working in the UK, with no more than a quarterly meet up as required.
  • 33 days holiday a year (including bank holidays) - plus an extra half day off on your birthday.
  • Long service gift awards plus extra holidays for 5, 10 and 15 years’ service.
  • Workplace pension scheme with Scottish Widows after qualifying service period.
  • Private Medical Insurance after qualifying service period.
  • Life assurance (4 x salary) from day one of employment.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).
  • One paid volunteering leave day per year.
  • Enhanced pay for parental and family leave.
  • Shopping and insurance discounts with Crunch Perks via Boostworks.
  • Employee 'refer a friend' scheme (clients and candidates for jobs at Crunch).
  • Company funded social events.

Other information:

  • This role is open to applicants with the right to live and work in the UK.
  • Please note that we’re unable to offer sponsorship to overseas candidates.
  • The usual working hours are Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:30
  • You need to be able to work from home in a comfortable, private environment, with a solid internet connection (a minimum of 10-12 Mbps upload speed) and a suitable desk and chair.
  • We'll provide you with all the IT equipment you need to get set up before you start with us - so there's no need to supply your own.

We’re exploring the use of AI and automation tools to streamline parts of our hiring process (such as CV processing and interview scheduling). However, candidate screening, interviews, and final decisions are conducted by real humans.

If an applicant discloses any disability or learning difficulty, we will endeavour to provide reasonable accommodation to participate in the interview(s), which are usually carried out remotely on video calls. If you consider yourself to have a disability or learning difficulty and would like to discuss additional support available, please let us know.

Crunch is committed to equal opportunities in every aspect of our company and the community, embracing and promoting a diverse and inclusive environment for our team members, those who apply to work for us and our client base, without exception.

We believe that the key to our success is our people, we value the contributions and experiences of all who make up our community. Supported by our company policies and procedures, we will take every possible step to ensure that no person will suffer direct or indirect discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, age, neurodiversity or disability status.

Crunch reserves the right to perform pre-employment checks using a designated third party partner on all successful applicants for roles at Crunch, (including but not limited to): Right to Work in the UK verification, DBS check, address check, employment references and UK credit checks. Candidates will be informed of the requirement for these by Crunch in advance of these being completed.

No recruitment companies or agencies please as we’re unable to accept unsolicited CVs for our vacancies.
