Position outline

We have an exciting opportunity to join an advanced technology group in the institute, focussing on Single Cell & Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies. Currently, the Molecular Technologies Service provides specialist advice & services to a wide range of research groups throughout the Institute and to local University of Glasgow affiliates/collaborators. We have established a core offering centred around NGS, covering; mRNAseq, total RNAseq, ChIPseq and Whole Exome sequencing amongst others, and we are continually striving to add more assays to our service repertoire. We also offer sequencing services via an in‐house Illumina NextSeq 2000 benchtop sequencer, and a single cell library preparation service focussing on (but not limited to) 10X workflows, which are supported by an in‐house Chromium X microfluidics instrument.

We seek to hire a Senior Scientific Officer to assist in the provision and continued development of the services offered Institute wide. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of service provision and support overall workload, with daily duties involving (but not limited to); sample reception, RNA/DNA sample quality control, bulk RNA/DNA library preparations using kits from a range of suppliers, single‐cell sample receipt & library preparations, preparing & loading sequencing runs and performing basic post‐run QC to ensure routine quality standards are met. The post‐holder will also be involved with planning and processing of pilot experiments with a view to implementing both new technologies and working practices available to service users.

The ideal applicant will possess a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent and have extensive Molecular Biology experience. Experience and knowledge of both the theory and practice of Next Generation and Single-Cell Sequencing techniques is essential. Excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to work well in a team are essential, as the role is integral to the delivery of high quality services to a wide range of users.
