About the role: Principal Analyst - Fertilizers is a recognised industry expert who leads and delivers product outputs, develops commodity-leading analysis, and translates client and business needs into market-leading coverage. This role combines deep commodity expertise, client engagement, and team mentorship to strengthen CRU's Market Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thought leadership: develop cohesive, compelling narratives across assigned services and build deep commodity expertise in fertilizers.
- Scenario and cross-commodity analysis: contribute to MAF-wide scenario thinking and narratives across adjacent commodities.
- Brand & external representation: build a strong media profile, represent CRU at senior external forums, and elevate the CRU brand as a deep commodity expert.
- Commercial & customer engagement: act as a trusted adviser with Account Managers on subscription accounts; balance client-facing activities with analytical work.
- Sales & marketing partnership: support new business, go-to-market activity, media engagement, and renewals by aligning insights to client decision cycles.
- Events & client outreach: deliver analysis at industry events, lead client meetings, demos and webinars, and capture input to inform product and modelling.
- Primary research & data stewardship: conduct primary and secondary research, cultivate market contacts, and translate findings into proprietary intelligence.
- Data, methodologies & IP: build and maintain datasets, methodologies and intellectual property that add commercial value and ensure consistency across Market Services.
- Coaching & mentoring: support and develop analysts' technical skills, sector knowledge and client engagement; act as a role model for individual-contributor career paths.
Qualifications:
- Essential: Bachelor's degree from a top-tier institution.
- Preferred: Further education or certification in a subject relevant to commodity research (e.g., geology, economics, engineering).
Skills & Experience:
- Experience: 10 years+ in mining & metals commodity research (direct industry experience highly advantageous); 5+ years in roles directly related to the assigned commodities.
- Strong analytical judgement: gather and critically analyse soft and hard data, quickly identify key trends and drivers, and produce perceptive conclusions and unique insight.
- Highly numerate: ability to interpret, manipulate and manage large datasets and apply mathematical concepts and processes.
- Communication: compelling and creative written and verbal communicator, able to present complex analysis clearly to senior clients.
- Commercial acumen: understanding of subscription business drivers and commitment to maximising revenue/profit while delivering client value.
- Leadership & collaboration: coach, inspire and influence team members; balance personal initiative with collaborative working.
- Credibility with stakeholders: confident communicator able to gain respect and trust from senior market participants.
