Regional Manager
We are currently recruiting for a Centre Manager in Bristol to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a busy technical service centre, including a team of mobile service technicians and workshop staff.
This is a hands-on management position suited to someone with a strong technical background in hydraulics, mechanical engineering, plant, vehicles, industrial maintenance or a similar environment. You will play a key role in coordinating technicians, managing customer requirements, maintaining stock and equipment, and ensuring the centre operates safely, efficiently and commercially.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced service environment where customer response times and minimising equipment downtime are critical. You will be responsible for leading and developing the team while also providing technical and operational support when required.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician, workshop supervisor, service manager, depot manager or engineering team leader looking to take the next step into a broader management role.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation of the Bristol service centre, including workshop activities, facilities, equipment and general presentation.
- Coordinate and allocate work across the centre and mobile service technicians to ensure fast, professional and reliable customer service.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers, technicians and other stakeholders.
- Ensure all work is carried out by appropriately trained and competent personnel.
- Ensure the centre and mobile service operation comply with relevant UK legislation, company procedures and industry standards.
- Maintain high standards of customer service and ensure customer enquiries and calls are handled professionally.
- Ensure pricing and charging for work is fair, consistent and commercially appropriate.
- Provide technical and sales support to mobile technicians where required.
- Recruit, train, supervise and develop members of the technical team.
- Carry out regular performance reviews and appraisals.
- Monitor the quality of work completed by technicians on customer equipment.
- Address performance or conduct issues appropriately and in line with employment procedures.
- Ensure all tools, machinery and equipment are fit for purpose and properly maintained.
- Ensure relevant equipment is serviced, maintained and calibrated where required.
- Take responsibility for stock management, inventory levels and ordering.
- Organise and lead regular team meetings, safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Support the ongoing development of health & safety, quality and environmental standards across the operation.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, customer service and business performance.
Essential Skills
- Strong technical background in hydraulics, hydraulic hose assembly, mechanical engineering, plant, vehicles, industrial maintenance or a related field.
- Previous experience managing, supervising or leading technicians, engineers, workshop staff or a technical service team.
- Understanding of mobile service, breakdown response or field-based technical operations.
- A strong appreciation of the importance of responding quickly to customers and minimising equipment downtime.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confident dealing with customers, technical staff and operational challenges.
