This Local Area Coordinator role is based in the community and whilst driving is not a requirement; you must be able to travel to and around the area to be considered for this role. Candidates with a UK driving licence and have a car are preferred.
Local Area Coordination is a specific approach to helping people build a positive vision for their lives, a plan for how to achieve their vision, and to ‘walk alongside’ people while they take positive action themselves. As a Local Area Coordinator, you’ll be rooted in the area working with local people, families and the community. You will become a familiar presence and a trusted point of contact for local people. You will use a person-centred and strengths-based approach to help people improve their health and wellbeing, build resilience, strengthen natural networks and navigate complex systems. You’ll also play a vital role in helping communities grow stronger, more inclusive and more connected. This is a rewarding, highly relational role where every day will be different. There will be occasional work outside of normal office hours, during evenings and weekends.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with people and has:
- Excellent local knowledge of the local area, Croydon and its diverse communities.
- Proven experience supporting marginalised individuals and families from diverse backgrounds in a similar role.
- Strong listening and communication skills, with a genuine commitment to working with people.
- Knowledge and skills in strengths-based, person-centred, and holistic approaches, with the ability to help people shape and pursue their own goals.
- Excellent relationship-building skills.
- Creative and independent problem-solving ability.
- Ability to risk assess and act autonomously whilst complying with procedures and practices.
- Good knowledge of the health and social care system, and other statutory and/or voluntary services.
- A solid understanding and experience of safeguarding practice and processes.
- Cultural and inclusive competence.
