We’re seeking applications for two trustee / Treasurer positions to help guide and support our charity’s mission goals and activities.

The Croydon Pride Trustee role supports the organisation by providing leadership, oversight, and advocacy to promote LGBTQIA+ equality and inclusion in Croydon. Trustees shape the strategic direction of the organisation, help set priorities, make key decisions, and guide the delivery of programmes such as Croydon PrideFest and year‑round community initiatives. Their input ensures that resources are focused on activities that create the greatest positive impact for the local LGBTQIA+ community.

Trustees provide governance and compliance oversight, ensuring the charity operates legally, ethically, and transparently. This includes monitoring finances, assessing risk, and ensuring policies and procedures meet regulatory requirements. Strong governance safeguards the organisation’s reputation and supports long‑term sustainability.

A key area of support is financial oversight and fundraising. Trustees help review budgets, guide investment of resources, and contribute to fundraising and sponsorship efforts. Their networks and expertise can be leveraged to secure partnerships, sponsorships, or donations, helping the organisation continue to deliver high‑quality, free events and expand its programmes.

Trustees act as ambassadors for Croydon Pride, representing the charity in public and professional settings. They build relationships with community groups, local authorities, businesses, and other stakeholders, raising awareness, fostering trust, and attracting support. Their involvement in event planning and volunteer coordination, particularly around PrideFest, ensures smooth delivery and positive experiences for participants and attendees.

Additionally, trustees bring a diverse mix of skills, perspectives, and lived experience that strengthens decision‑making, promotes inclusivity, and ensures the organisation reflects the community it serves. By contributing their time, expertise, and guidance, trustees support the charity’s capacity building, sustainability, and long‑term growth, enabling staff and volunteers to focus on programme delivery with confidence that the organisation is well‑led and secure.

We are seeking individuals with relevant experience and a commitment to equality and inclusion. Specific areas of experience include:

  • Bid/grant writing
  • Volunteer management
  • Event planning
  • Building and managing business relationships

Hybrid work arrangements may be available.

A Croydon Pride Trustee plays a key leadership role in helping shape, guide, and support the charity’s mission to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion for Croydon’s LGBTQIA+ community. Trustees are collectively responsible for ensuring the charity is well‑run, financially sustainable, and delivers meaningful impact through events, advocacy, and community engagement — most notably through the flagship Croydon PrideFest, one of London’s largest free Pride events.

Trustees provide strategic direction, helping to set priorities and oversee delivery of the charity’s objectives in line with its constitution and charitable purposes. They ensure that activities – including PrideFest, year‑round community initiatives, and awareness campaigns – align with Croydon Pride’s mission to advance LGBTQIA+ visibility and inclusion. This involves working collaboratively to make high‑level decisions about partnerships, communications, fundraising, and the long‑term vision for the organisation.

A core responsibility is governance. Trustees ensure that the charity meets its legal and regulatory obligations, maintains transparency, and operates ethically. They oversee finances, approve budgets, and monitor risk to safeguard the organisation’s assets and reputation. They also support good governance practices, contributing to policy development, trustee recruitment, and effective board operation.

While it is a non‑executive and voluntary role, trustees are expected to be hands‑on when needed — particularly in the lead‑up to PrideFest. This may include supporting event planning, engaging with local authorities and sponsors, helping coordinate volunteers, or representing Croydon Pride at public and community events. Trustees act as ambassadors for the charity, promoting its work and helping to build strong relationships with partners, funders, and local LGBTQIA+ groups.

Trustees bring a range of skills and perspectives, from community engagement and event management to finance, communications, governance, or lived experience within the LGBTQIA+ community. Diversity of thought and background is valued highly, as Croydon Pride seeks to reflect the community it serves. Trustees are expected to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and show a genuine commitment to equality and inclusion.

The board typically meets every 1–2 months, with additional working groups or planning sessions around major events. Trustees should be prepared to dedicate time for meetings, reviewing papers, and supporting key initiatives, particularly during the Pride season.

Treasurer requirements:

  • Understanding of Companies House and Charity Commission obligations
  • Willingness and confidence to challenge where needed to ensure funding is used responsibly
  • Comfortable handling invoices and related financial tasks
  • Financial management and budgeting experience
  • Ability to understand and explain financial information clearly
  • Experience with monitoring income, expenditure, and cash flow
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Organised and reliable with deadlines (e.g. reports, filings)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a trustee board
  • Understanding of good governance and accountability (or willingness to learn)
  • Confident communicating financial matters to non‑financial colleagues
