The Legal Services Manager will support the Head of Legal and lead the Legal Services Team within the Corporate Governance Directorate.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a hands-on approach to day-to-day legal casework while balancing other leadership duties.
- Ensure efficient and effective legal services that minimise clinical, financial, operational and legal risks, including inquests, clinical claims, court of protection cases and all aspects of clinical legal advice, training and support.
- Provide legal advice to the Trust under the guidance of the Head of Legal, sourcing external providers when appropriate.
- Supervise and manage a caseload relating to clinical negligence, employers’ liability, personal injury and coroner-related work, and attend and represent at some inquests.
- Develop and maintain strong service delivery, providing healthcare legal advice as required.
- Work with professional leads to demonstrate compliance with national policies and standards.
- Improve the quality and value of services by learning from legal issues, including claims.
- Implement mechanisms to identify and refer patient safety risks to relevant teams for escalation and investigation, and drive learning from claims and inquests.
- Lead the subject access requests team to comply with legal disclosure requirements for health records and personal data.
