The Infrastructure Engineer is a key member of the Digital Services Infrastructure Team at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. The role ensures the Trust’s digital infrastructure operates securely, efficiently, and reliably across acute and community sites, supporting staff access to critical information and systems.
Core Responsibilities
- Service Delivery: Provide infrastructure services in line with SLAs, resolving incidents and requests promptly.
- System Management: Deploy, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot servers, networks, telephony, and related hardware/software.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure infrastructure meets NHS security standards, DSPT Toolkit requirements, and Cyber Security guidelines.
- Project Support: Contribute to technical projects and assist with upgrades, patching, and improvements.
- Monitoring & Risk Reduction: Use proactive alerting tools to minimize downtime and maintain performance standards.
- Technical Expertise: Possess specialist knowledge in Server/Storage and generalist knowledge across other infrastructure domains (Telecoms, Networking, or Architecture).
Additional Duties
- Flexible working hours (8 am–6 pm coverage) and participation in on-call rota.
- Manage team cover and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably required by the line manager.
Operational Responsibilities
- Deliver infrastructure services in line with SLAs.
- Manage and maintain infrastructure systems for maximum availability, including redundancy and documentation.
- Ensure systems, procedures, and documentation are accurate and regularly updated.
- Configure, upgrade, patch, and troubleshoot servers, storage and security systems.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and connectivity, report findings to senior management.
- Implement and maintain data backup strategies.
- Enforce security compliance and respond to NHS Digital CareCERT.
- Test changes before live deployment and follow Change Board process.
- Identify and manage risks; maintain asset registers and capacity management processes.
- Provide training and mentorship across teams.
- Explore emerging technologies to enhance patient care.
- Liaise with 3rd party suppliers and external stakeholders.

- Ensure safe use and maintenance of infrastructure assets.

- Perform diagnostics and root cause analysis using specialized tools.
- Resolve issues efficiently and escalate when necessary.

- Assist in planning and implementing new infrastructure systems.
