Work Hours: 40 hours per week, including 1:8 on-call commitments in critical care or theatres commensurate with experience.
Department: Anaesthetics & Critical Care
Reports To: Anaesthetic lead and divisional lead
Accountability: Accountable to the Anaesthesia divisional lead
General Responsibilities:
- Support the departments of Anaesthesia and ITU in day-to-day activities.
- Participate in the general workload of the department.
- Provide clinical care in the intensive care unit (15 beds, 8 level 3 and 7 level 2).
- Commit to an EWTD-compliant rota of 12-hour shifts, with 1:8 on-call duties shared with other trainees.
- Assist with the stabilization and transfer of new patients referred from other areas of the hospital.
- Engage in research activities, dedicating 40% of normal working days to research.
- Attend, contribute to and distribute in-house teaching and weekly intensive care teaching sessions.
- Explain clinical teaching and support the 1-on-1 teaching sessions with consultants.
Additional Opportunities: For candidates with anaesthetic experience, theatre sessions can be incorporated to enhance anaesthetic skills.
Examinations and Training: The role encourages examination preparation and participation in in-house teaching.
