An opportunity has arisen at Croydon Health Services (CHS) for a Band 4 - Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician, who is forward thinking, enthusiastic and motivated, to join our established, welcoming, friendly and experienced dedicated ward-based pharmacy medicines management team. The successful applicant will share our vision and be committed to our values and goals for the delivery of the best care to our patients.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services certificate or equivalent.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Accredited Checking Qualification (ACPT) or near completion of the course.

Main duties of the job:

You will be part of a team that provides a high quality, patient focused medicines management service to the wards. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including doctors, nurses and liaising with colleagues within primary care. You will be required to undertake a variety of tasks such as:

  • Medication histories, tailored patient consultations.
  • Supporting timely medicines reconciliation & medicine adherence assessments.
  • Support flow, social and community enablement.
  • Support reduction in medicines wastage & carbon footprint, reduction in missed, delayed and omitted doses.
  • Labelling, dispensing and checking duties within our highly valued Satellite Pharmacy and within the main dispensary when required.

The post holder will also be given the opportunity to contribute to Service improvement projects and CIPS (Cost improvement Programmes). Within our Trust all Band 4 technicians are supported to complete our in-house educational, training and development plan, which will equip staff with the skills, behaviours and knowledge in preparation for future pharmacy career progression.

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Experience of working as a medicines management technician.
  • Dispensing experience.
  • Previous experience of training / supervision of other staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with the general public and demonstrates empathy and sensitivity to patients needs when required.
  • Primary Care Experience.
  • Patient Medication Counselling.
  • Conducting / being involved with quality improvement.
  • Electronic Prescribing Knowledge.

Knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of clinical pharmacy and role of a medicines management technician.
  • Understanding of a hospital environment.
  • Good I.T skills and knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.
  • Good understanding of working effectively within a MDT team.
  • Good understanding of Medicines Optimisation.
  • Knowledge of regulations, legislation and pharmacy standards of conduct.
  • Knowledge of cost improvement or other efficiency or savings programmes.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPHC.
  • NVQ in Pharmacy Services Level 3 with BTEC or equivalent.
  • Evidence of commitment to CPD and maintains an up to date CPD portfolio.
  • National accredited Checking Qualification (or working towards).
  • National Medicines Management Course or equivalent or evidence of competence.

  • Demonstrates communication (written and oral), organisational and problem solving skills.
  • Accurate with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer care and near patient care service.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work and concentrate whilst coping with interruptions and distractions.
  • Personal awareness of limitations.
  • Friendly / supportive, highly motivated, confident and enthusiastic.
