Responsibilities
- Assist in the reprocessing and distribution of medical and surgical reusable devices for use in patient care.
- After a qualifying period, occasionally work on their own and participate in the on-call.
- Work at all times in accordance with the department\’s Quality Management System.
- Demonstrate a flexible \’can do\’ attitude and respond to major incidents.
- Handle manual duties and exposure to chemicals and machinery in a role with no direct patient involvement.
- Accurately check back into the department instruments used in patient operations, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packing, sterilisation and distribution.
- Learn the safety and operational aspects of machinery used in the department and complete all paperwork correctly and on time, including Tray List / Pack Specification accounting.
- Inform a Supervisor when raw material stocks are low and participate in the appraisal system in accordance with Trust policy.
Qualifications and experience
- Essential: GCSE/O level or equivalent in English and Maths
- Desirable: IDSc Technical Certificate Decontamination Certificates
- Knowledge and understanding: Treating medical devices as if the patient they will be used on is your loved one; contribute to a happy, cooperative team environment
- Desirable experience: Experience in a similar unit; Trained Decontamination Technician
- Skills/abilities/qualities: Prepared to handle equipment bearing residual bodily fluids, physically able to lift and use manual handling aids, attention to detail, sense of urgency, ability to work in a team and on own initiative, effective communication, English literacy and numeracy, availability for evenings, Saturdays, Bank Holidays and on-call shifts
- Desirable knowledge: Understanding of Sterile Services and Endoscopy procedures; knowledge of surgical instrumentation
