Reports to: Senior Contracts Technical Officer

This is an exciting time to be working in Croydon as we launch our new contract for Household Waste and Recycling Collections and Street Cleansing which provides an opportunity for you to work as part of a customer focussed, service delivery team.

We are currently recruiting 3 x Contracts Technical Officers to be part of a busy Waste and Streets contract monitoring team.

The Role

·You will be responsible for monitoring and undertaking inspections of the council’s integrated contract for refuse collection, street cleaning, recycling, footway gritting and weed spraying contract to ensure that all services are completed within the agreed service specification and are being provided to the required service standard by the contractor.

·You will be required to submit and enter respective contract performance data into the agreed computerised systems for each contract within the team’s work remit in a timely and consistent manner and produce reports for your assigned inspection areas and identify any contract defects or service failures in relation to the contract as necessary by working in partnership with the contractor to implement remedial action as necessary.

·You will be required to maintain plans, proposals, schedules, specifications, reports, estimates, budgets and relevant contract documentation/management systems for the team’s respective work areas and oversee the continual improvement and development of any waste and recycling and street projects and initiatives.

·You will provide appropriate, professional and technical advice about waste collections, recycling and street cleaning, to all stakeholders, including other departments, elected members / councillors, schools, businesses, external bodies and residents. If needed you will be required to represent the council on service matters at, but not limited to, public meetings, council meetings, and other events within the scope of the services managed by the Contracts Technical Team as well as supporting and providing responses to escalating service failures and complaints, by directly liaising with the councils’ internal customer support team and contractors’ representatives.

·You will be regularly working outdoors in all weather and lone working and will occasionally be required to work outside normal office hours, attend meetings, courses, and events both within and if needed, outside the borough of Croydon. You may also be required to direct, attend and manage emergency call-outs in storm and adverse weather situations, as necessary, outside normal working hours and to support and direct clear-up operations as agreed by the Emergency Planning Officer or Emergency Services.

About you

·You will be passionate, bringing plenty of energy and initiative to this role and ensure you deliver excellent customer service to improve the resident experience and contribute as an effective and collaborative team member while championing the professional integrity of the service.

·You will have a proven background of being able to arrange and carry out your own schedule of inspections, using your own initiative to complete daily tasks with an organised approach whilst working on several activities at any one time with constantly changing pressures and priorities, to meet deadlines, targets and set objectives.

·You will possess a high standard of IT skill, including word processing, spread sheets, databases, presentations, email/ internet, and experience of CRM / GIS and mapping systems. Training will be provided for our internal systems.

·You will also need to have good oral, communication, interpersonal skills and negotiation skills with individuals at all levels across diverse groups of stakeholders and have the ability to network well and establish positive working relationships with a range of organisations and internal and external contacts.
