Location: Croydon

As a qualified and experienced YJS Substance Misuse Worker you will be responsible for providing a safe and confidential space for children and young people aged 10 to 18 who are under the supervision of Croydon Youth Justice Service (YJS) to explore issues around substance misuse, helping to break down stigma and taboo to reduce any further risky and/or re-offending behaviours.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver a tailored approach using a therapeutic framework, ensuring interventions meet individual needs.
  • Bring creativity and innovation to how you engage, build rapport, and deliver interventions.
  • Design and implement bespoke psychoeducation interventions for young people affected by substance misuse.
  • Triage referrals promptly and effectively, ensuring appropriate allocation and prioritization.
  • Maintain accurate records by updating the system with all contacts and case notes.
  • Use evaluation tools and focus groups to review and improve the Substance Misuse (SMU) offer.
  • Participate in panels and STRATS to support multi-agency decision-making.
  • Safeguard young people in line with policies and procedures, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
  • Record and submit data to NDTMS in accordance with national standards.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, risks, and best practices through independent learning.

About You

  • A relevant qualification in a discipline involving work with children and young people or substantial recent experience of direct work with young people and their families involved in YJS and/or substance misuse.
  • Knowledge of current practice and service development issues concerning children and young people who offend and their families.
  • Building effective relationships with children and young people, families and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of the causes of crime and effective methods of reducing offending behaviour.
  • Knowledge of diverse, multi-cultural communities and their needs.
