Background
Croydon is one of London’s largest and most diverse boroughs, with distinct and varied communities creating an exciting place full of opportunity. We are proud of our heritage, creativity and diversity, which is at the heart of Croydon’s London Borough of Culture 2023 celebrations. We are home to more than 409,000 residents, we have the largest population in London, with the largest number of under 18s of any London borough. The population is expected to grow by 5.9% by 2034 with the majority of this rise being seen in the older population.
In recent months there has been significant focus on the challenges facing Croydon. We do not shy away from the scale of these challenges and have improvement programmes across the organisation to deliver the changes that are needed. Croydon faces the same challenges as other London boroughs: increased demand for adult social care services, homelessness, crime and fear of crime, rising property prices, and increased deprivation following a decade of austerity. However, it is a place of resilience and strong communities, where residents and community partners share a commitment to Croydon’s success.
The Croydon Public Health team sits within the Adult Social Care & Health Directorate. The Adult’s Public Health Commissioning function also sits within the Strategic Commissioning & Improvement team in the same Directorate. This enables great partnerships working and problem solving from like-minded commissioners also working on how services can best meet the needs of our local community. We work closely with the One Croydon Alliance in order to achieve the ambitions of our Croydon Health and Care Plan and Croydon Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
Strategic Commissioning & Improvement for Adult Social Care & Public Health Vision
