We are looking for a proactive and technically strong 2nd Line Infrastructure Engineer to join our Council IT team. This is a balanced hybrid role combining operational excellence with cloud and endpoint modernisation.
You will play a key role in maintaining stable, secure infrastructure services while contributing to ongoing digital transformation initiatives — including cloud adoption, modern endpoint management, and automation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both troubleshooting complex issues and driving service improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Support and maintain VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter).
- Perform patching, upgrades, performance monitoring, and capacity management.
- Assist with infrastructure refresh and hybrid cloud initiatives.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery testing.
- Administer and troubleshoot Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
- Manage machine catalogues, delivery groups, policies, and gold images.
- Resolve session performance, login, and profile issues.
- Support platform optimisation and lifecycle upgrades.
- Configure and support Microsoft Intune Package/deploy applications (Win32/MSI).
- Manage Windows Autopilot builds and laptop provisioning.
- Implement compliance policies, security baselines and Manage Windows Update for Business policies.
- Support secure BYOD and mobile device enrolment.
- Support hybrid identity and Microsoft 365 integrations.
- Contribute to cloud-first and modern workplace initiatives.
- Implement endpoint hardening aligned with Cyber Essentials standards.
- Assist with audit evidence and governance documentation.
- Act as escalation point for 1st Line support.
- Manage incidents, service requests, and problem records in line with ITIL.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative fixes.
- Maintain accurate documentation and technical standards.
- Proven 2nd Line Infrastructure experience (ideally within Local Government or Public Sector).
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
- Microsoft Intune
- Windows Autopilot
- VMware vSphere
- Experience supporting hybrid Azure environments.
- Microsoft / Citrix / VMware certifications.
- ITIL Foundation.
- Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
