Salary range: Grade 9 - £42,060 - £43,680 p.a. plus fantastic benefits.

Contract: Fixed Term (12 months).

Hours of work: 36 hours per week.

Location: Croydon.

This role is a 12 month fixed term maternity cover.

The London Borough of Croydon is looking for a qualified and experienced Curator to join our team on a temporary basis (maternity cover). Working as part of the Croydon Heritage Service (comprising Museum of Croydon and Croydon Archives collections), this is an exciting opportunity for a motivated heritage professional capable of managing multiple projects and interested in being a part of a large and dynamic culture offer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Budget management (specifically conservation and exhibition budgets)
  • Developing fundraising bids where required or opportunities arise
  • Being responsive to and supporting the regeneration of Croydon town centre by providing outstanding and innovative curatorial services. This will involve working closely with Culture, Leisure and Libraries and Communications colleagues
  • Implementing policies / procedures and taking responsibility for the management, care, security, development and access to Museum of Croydon collections, ensuring all work meets accreditation standards
  • Planning, producing, maintaining, promoting and evaluating temporary and permanent exhibitions, as detailed in the Heritage Service Forward Plan (this includes exhibits developed in house and loaned touring exhibitions)
  • Working with colleagues in the Heritage Service to ensure that community partners are involved with all aspects of service activity, and in particular ensuring communities are enabled to feed into exhibition development and programming
  • Contributing to the Heritage Service’s recording, evaluation and reporting of activities, to ensure we provide an agile service meeting residents and stakeholders needs
  • Working closely with the Borough Archivist to provide holistic care for all Heritage Service collections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience of working with a local history collection / in a local history context is preferred, as is working for a Local Authority.
  • As the role has an exhibitions focus, the ability to use Adobe Photoshop programmes and design 2D and 3D exhibition elements would also be a strong advantage.
