Background

Croydon is one of London's largest and most diverse boroughs, with distinct and varied communities creating an exciting place full of opportunity. We are proud of our heritage, creativity and diversity, which is at the heart of Croydon's London Borough of Culture 2023 celebrations. We are home to more than 409,000 residents, we have the largest population in London, with the largest number of under 18s of any London borough. The population is expected to grow by 5.9% by 2034 with the majority of this rise being seen in the older population.

In recent months there has been significant focus on the challenges facing Croydon. We do not shy away from the scale of these challenges and have improvement programmes across the organisation to deliver the changes that are needed. Croydon faces the same challenges as other London boroughs: increased demand for adult social care services, homelessness, crime and fear of crime, rising property prices, and increased deprivation following a decade of austerity. However, it is a place of resilience and strong communities, where residents and community partners share a commitment to Croydon's success.

The Croydon Public Health team sits within the Adult Social Care & Health Directorate. The Adult's Public Health Commissioning function also sits within the Strategic Commissioning & Improvement team in the same Directorate. This enables great partnerships working and problem solving from like-minded commissioners also working on how services can best meet the needs of our local community. We work closely with the One Croydon Alliance in order to achieve the ambitions of our Croydon Health and Care Plan and Croydon Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Strategic Commissioning & Improvement for Adult Social Care & Public Health Vision

We will ensure that health and social care services in Croydon are designed with and for the people of Croydon. We will develop, review and aim to continually improve services so that they are based on the strengths of local communities and help people to live happy, healthy and independent lives.

As a commissioning team our purpose statement is

To ensure there are effective services available for the adult population of Croydon that maximise independence and wellbeing. Commissioners work with the market to drive innovation, to deliver improved outcomes and ensure best value.

Join our team

We have an ambitious programme of transformation to deliver to our Adult Public Health programmes, and this post will support the Strategic Commissioning Manager for Public Health to ensure we are meeting the needs of local residents and ensuring that good Public Health is at the heart of all interventions that support people's health and wellbeing. Local Needs Assessment will be driving our commissioning intentions for all Sexual Health services and Healthy Behaviour programmes including NHS Health Checks.

We are seeking an individual who would like to be part of our exciting transformational journey and has the skills to drive forward change at pace, who has undertaken core functions of the commissioning cycle, can project manage service improvement and be a support to the other commissioning and contract officers in the team based on your experience.

If you would like to know more about the role or would like to have an informal discussion, please contact Leanne Bobb - Head of Strategic Commissioning & Improvement for Adult Social Care & Health and Public Health leanne.bobb@croydon.gov.uk
