As Road Safety Manager, you will play a key role in shaping this future by leading innovative strategies that reduce casualties, promote active travel, and deliver on our Vision Zero ambitions.
About the Role
- Develop and implement Croydon's Road Safety Strategy aligned with Vision Zero principles.
- Lead on road safety audits, collision data analysis, and community engagement.
- Manage the design and delivery of local safety schemes, school streets, 20 mph zones, and public realm projects.
- Oversee education and engagement programmes, including Junior Travel Ambassadors and campaigns on speeding and mobile phone use.
- Maintain and analyse STATS19 collision data and other datasets to identify high-risk locations.
- Represent Croydon in pan-London forums and liaise with TfL, emergency services, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare funding bids and manage project budgets effectively.
- Provide line management and leadership to up to two direct reports, ensuring clear objectives, professional development, and high performance.
About You
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, or a related discipline.
- Membership of CIHT, ICE, or a similar professional body.
- Proven experience in road safety engineering and public realm design.
- Strong knowledge of UK road safety legislation, design standards (DMRB, TSRGD), and TfL guidance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and deliver projects under pressure.
- A postgraduate qualification in traffic and road safety management is desirable.
- Occasional attendance at meetings outside normal working hours may be required.
