Croydon Council's Development Management Service is responsible for the full range of planning applications and consents, appeals, and enforcement investigations. We are seeking a Deputy Team Leader to join our Technical Support Team and support the planning service. This role is pivotal in supporting our service as we enhance our digital capabilities to better serve Croydon residents and businesses.
As our Technical Support Deputy Team Leader, you will provide an important role in ensuring planning applications are processed efficiently, records are maintained accurately, and our systems operate effectively. You will assist the Team Leader in managing team members and ensuring a high performing, customer-focused service.
The Council's flexible working policy requires office presence 3 days a week for full-time management roles. We are willing to consider full time, part-time and flexible working. If applying for part-time working, please specify this within your application.
Responsibilities
- Support the validation and processing of planning applications using our specialist IT system: IDOX Uniform
- Maintain accurate customer records and archive systems in accordance with departmental procedures
- Assist with technical queries from colleagues and customers
- Contribute to service development initiatives and team meetings, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
- Provide support for key meetings, hearings and events, including appeal hearings
- Ensure that CIL notices are processed in a timely manner
- Prepare notices and reports ahead of Planning Committee meetings
- Assist with data collection and analysis, including statutory returns to government
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working in an office environment with case management IT systems
- Strong general IT skills including proficiency in Windows, word-processing and email
- The ability to read and scale drawings
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- A methodical approach with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Customer service focus with a helpful and confident manner
- The ability to work well under pressure while maintaining accuracy
- Knowledge of planning legislation, local government operations, and experience with planning-related systems (IDOX Uniform) would be advantageous.
