Trees and Woodland Officer in City of London

Salary range: Grade 10 £43,680 - £45,750. Plus fantastic benefits.

Contract: Permanent.

Hours of work: 36 hours per week.

Location: Croydon.

This is an exciting time to be working in Croydon. We are currently looking to recruit a Trees and Woodlands Officer to be part of a busy Trees and Woodlands team at the beginning of a new Arboricultural services contract with a new supplier. Croydon Council manages approximately 33,000 street trees, 500 hectares of woodlands, and 127 parks and open spaces including some sites of importance for nature conservation.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Be responsible for discharging the Council’s responsibilities relating to arboriculture and associated risk from tree legislation.
• Provide professional and technical advice to all client departments, elected members, schools, external bodies and the general public.
• Survey and implement the various programmes of work necessary to ensure the effective maintenance of the Council’s tree stock on highways, parks and open spaces.
• Survey Council owned tree stock on streets, parks, and woodlands, as well as other Council owned land, using our asset management system.
• Deal with Councillor and MP enquiries as well as enquiries that come from our residents.
• Promote the active participation of the public, working closely with residents, community groups, charities, sponsors and third-party organisations.
• Represent the council at meetings, etc.
• Involve in the planting of new trees throughout the Borough.

About You

• Experience of working within the Arboriculture field either in a similar local authority position or within the private sector, and a willingness to undertake continuous professional and personal development.
• Able to organise, plan and prioritise workload effectively.
• Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the service.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of people including members, senior officers, and community representatives.
• Represent the Trees and Woodland team both within the Council and externally.

Qualifications

• Relevant level 3 qualification in an Arboricultural, ecological or related field. In depth experience in an appropriate field can be substituted for formal qualifications.
• Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

Specifications

• Full-time 36 hours per week, flexible hybrid position.
• Will occasionally be required to work outside normal office hours, attend meetings, courses, and events both within and outside the borough of Croydon.
