South London Coroner’s Court – Administrative Team Leader
Location:South London Coroner’s Court, Davis House, Robert Street, Croydon, CR0 1QQ. This role is predominantly Court-based with some opportunities for home working.
Hours per week: 18 per week, job share.

About South London Coroner’s Court
Coroners investigate certain deaths in their jurisdiction that are deemed to be unnatural, violent, or where the cause is unknown. The South London Coroner’s Court serves the four London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Croydon and Sutton, and Croydon Council is the lead authority and responsible for providing resources and staffing to support the Coroners and the running of the court.
About the role

The role is responsible for leading the team of administrative staff who support the Coroners in conducting inquests into deaths that are violent, unnatural, sudden, or of unknown cause. The role requires good understanding of the coronial system and the relevant legislation, as well as strong leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills. It is also a hands-on role to make sure that the team’s work is carried out efficiently, sensitively, and in accordance with the law.
You will work closely with different people, like families who have lost someone, funeral directors, lawyers, police, and health professionals and provide support and guidance to bereaved relatives and friends. About you
Succeeding in this position calls for great communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills. Being able to quickly learn the workings of a Coroner’s Court and the relevant legislation and rules is key. You will handle pressure with ease and tackle challenging situations with tact and empathy. Previous experience in a Court setting is not essential, but you will have succeeded in similar roles leading teams within a statutory framework, setting the stage for your success in this dynamic and rewarding position.
