Overview

As a paralegal assistant, you are the first point of contact dealing with enquiries and correspondence, delivering excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders. You provide casework support within your team and gain insight into the Crown Prosecution Service\'s work. You prepare cases for the magistrates\' and Crown Court, produce court documents and court listings, manage case files, draft letters, and briefing prosecutors. You liaise with criminal justice partners to progress cases and provide practical support to victims and witnesses.

Responsibilities

  • You attend court to provide support for paralegal officers and prosecutors.
  • You prepare casework and documentation for court, supporting legal teams to operate effectively and efficiently.
  • You ensure information received is recorded accurately for easy retrieval by the case team.
  • You provide excellent customer service to enquiries received by your team, ensuring public and stakeholders have confidence in the CPS.
  • You ensure all work is produced to a high standard reflecting CPS values.

Organisation and Location

The Crown Prosecution Service works across England and Wales, with 14 regional teams (CPS Areas) led by chief crown prosecutors. Paralegal, casework and prosecution staff work with local police and other partners to prepare and prosecute local cases. You will be assigned to a court near your chosen location and may be required to travel to court daily.

Requirements and Preferences

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills, including Microsoft 365.
  • Interest in criminal law and public service.
  • No formal qualifications or legal experience required; structured induction training is provided. Customer service skills are desirable but not required.
