The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has announced the appointment of Laing O'Rourke and five other contractors to a new alliance to build Single Living Accommodation (SLA) for the Armed Forces. The alliance will run for six years and will deliver 16,000 new bedspaces as part of a wider MOD plan to build or refurbish 40,000 SLA bedspaces over ten years. The programme forms part of DIO's new Programmatic Approach for SLA, designed to improve delivery efficiency, drive value for money, and enhance the lived experience for service personnel.
CHt will be delivering the MEP works which will be commencing in September this year, with roles based at RAF Waddington (Lincolnshire) or Albemarle Barracks (Northumberland). We are now looking for experienced Mechanical Project Engineers to register their interest ahead of mobilisation.

The Opportunity
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in the delivery and installation of mechanical building services, working closely with subcontractors, consultants and the wider project team to respond to technical queries, resolve site issues and coordinate installation activities.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Previous project delivery experience on major construction or infrastructure projects (ideally within defence or other highly regulated environments).
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services installation (HVAC, pipework, plantrooms, etc.).
- Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating works on site.
- The ability to select & manage innovative methods, use of materials & safe systems of work.
- Effective communication with senior management, designers, consultants, clients and the wider project team on technical matters.
- Practical application of engineering principles and problem‑solving in a live construction environment.
- Establish and oversee local implementation of engineering systems, documentation and controls to comply with H&S legislation and Company standards.
- First degree in Engineering Discipline (Mechanical), other construction or design related degree, or an industry recognised technical or engineering qualification (NVQ Level 4+).
