We are looking for a Development Engineer to join our team in Wantage, Oxfordshire. The teams work on the development of a range of metal cans for beverage, food, and aerosol applications and their associated manufacturing processes. They are responsible for delivering new and improved products and processes, and providing technical support to Crown’s global manufacturing operations.

Main responsibilities:

  • Use CAD (SolidWorks) to design metal packaging components, tools, and machine parts.
  • Organise and undertake product and process development work in the technical facilities at Crown Technology, setting up equipment and manufacturing samples for testing, demonstration and customer trials.
  • Evaluation and proving of new product specifications.
  • Generation of product manufacturing standards and specifications.
  • Transfer technology into the manufacturing plants, preparing the necessary documentation, providing commissioning support and demonstrating capability against dimensional and performance requirements.
  • Provide a problem solving resource to the operations, helping resolve manufacturing issues in Crown’s plants.

Required education, qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent subject discipline or HNC/equivalent.
  • Previous relevant experience.
  • A strong mechanical design ability with CAD experience.
  • Ability to perform hands on tooling and machine set-up.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Able to drive project work with the minimum of supervision.
  • Full driving licence & ability to travel.

Beneficial education, experience and skills:

  • Experience within Research and Development.
  • Solidworks experience.
  • Statistical and data analysis skills.
