About the role

The department is responsible for ensuring the commercial viability of proposals and extensions, including evaluating cash flow implications and identifying commercial risks; while facilitating business development across the organization.

Main Job Purpose

As a Senior Commercial Officer within the Commercial and Business Development Office (CBDO), you will support the department in assessing the commercial value of opportunities, developing costing estimates and budgets, and preparing full commercial proposals. When not working on a specific opportunity, you will undertake research, develop written content and tools, and support the commercial team to improve our bidding process and win rate.

Main Responsibilities of Role

  • Assist with qualifying opportunity leads by developing Rough Order of Magnitude estimates for discussion and cost strategies.
  • Develop detailed costings and budgets for proposals.
  • Write compelling cost proposal narratives and sound commercial assumptions in the development of responses to tenders.
  • Develop financial models to support decision-making in relation to the commercial viability of opportunities.
  • Assist with the revision of costings and commercial proposals of junior staff and during the contract negotiation process.
  • Develop and/or refine the budget template in Microsoft Excel, leveraging your Excel skills to allow for rapid and automated adjustments as the technical proposal develops.
  • Contribute to the continuous review and development of the commercial bid development process.
  • Support the development and refinement of tools to improve financial modeling for business development efforts across Crown Agents’ companies.
  • Present commercial proposals to key stakeholders, including executive and leadership staff.
  • Coach the wider team on developing commercial proposals and work towards raising levels of commerciality across the business.
  • Build knowledge and experience through working with colleagues, developing networks, communicating widely, and attending internal and external events.
  • Enable continuous improvement and information and knowledge sharing across the business. Be a role model for continuous learning, constructive feedback, and positivity.
  • Be aware of and adhere to company quality standards and procedures in accordance with Crown Agents’ commitment to working to the highest quality standards.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant cost/pricing experience in the International Development industry.
  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office applications in particular Excel.
  • Previous experience in the consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated prior experience in developing high-value, compliant, and successful commercial proposals.
