We have a vacancy for a Corporate Tax Director to work in our Midlands South West Tax team specialising in Innovation taxes. This would preferably be based in either our Cheltenham or Oldbury office and ideally a full-time permanent role with opportunities for progression and growth of the Innovation taxes fees. Whilst the role would be supporting our client base within Midlands and South West, the individual will work alongside our national Innovation taxes team, in order to work together on tax technical, risk management of claims, marketing and business development.
Core Responsibilities
- Line management of members of the R&D team and ensuring the development of the necessary skillset and career progression.
- Leading R&D meetings with clients, building and developing effective working relationships with colleagues, intermediaries and other networks to develop further opportunities and business over time.
- Identification of qualifying R&D projects and expenditure through participation in technical and financial discussions with clients.
- Undertaking technical and financial assessments and supporting the team to produce summaries.
- Revision of technical and financial assessments prepared by other members of the team.
- Ensuring R&D claims meet the requirements of relevant tax legislation and guidelines.
- Preparation of R&D claim financial calculations and liaison with both internal and external tax teams to ensure tax returns and computations correctly reflect the outcome of technical assessments.
- Project management of claims such as liaison with clients, colleagues and HMRC to ensure claims are optimised and deadlines are met.
- Contributes to the development of solutions to complex technical problems.
- First point of contact with clients.
- Actively developing and promoting, both internally and externally, the firm's R&D tax offering.
- Continuously developing own knowledge and skills and to keep technical knowledge up to date.
- Representing the Firm at seminars, presentations and other events.
Requirements
- Excellent knowledge of UK R&D tax relief schemes and claim quantification. Able to sign off technical reports along with the additional information forms and supporting costings prepared for the team.
- Proven experience of managing several projects simultaneously, and experience in working within a business unit with internal and external clients.
- Proven experience of working on R&D tax relief claims for both small and large companies, comfortably liaising with Managing Directors, Financial Directors, CEOs, CTOs etc. of such companies.
- Willingness to train, supervise, manage and take responsibility for junior staff within the team, coaching them on R&D tax relief scheme rules and preparation of underlying supporting information.
- Excellent communication (both spoken and written) and people skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into non-technical concepts.
- Be highly proactive in the approach to new work opportunities including an ability and willingness to develop the R&D fees through business development in the region.
- Able to produce technical and marketing content for internal and external use evidencing credentials of the Innovation taxes team and updates to changes to UK R&D schemes.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness.
