This role is offered by Crouch Waterfall, a subsidiary of Vulcain Engineering Group. Due to business growth, we are seeking a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary civil & structural team in our Basingstoke office. Reporting to the Associate Director, this person will lead the technical delivery across a wide variety of projects, from small value projects up to £20m in construction value, on project tasks which primarily cover rail, bridges, and temporary works design amongst others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical delivery of complex civil and structural projects, including bridges, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and temporary works, taking ownership of key elements and contributing to overall project direction.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced Engineers and Technicians, supporting their development through coaching and technical input.
  • Act as a technical reviewer, checking and contributing to the development of designs, calculations, and analysis produced by others.
  • Undertake structural assessments, site inspections, and surveys, producing clear and concise technical reports.
  • Play a key role in planning and coordinating project delivery, including programmes, resource allocation, and collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Contribute to the commercial management of projects, including forecasting, invoicing, and fee tracking.
  • Engage with clients to help define project scope, manage expectations, and support the successful delivery of outputs.
  • Contribute to the preparation of tenders and fee proposals.
  • Play an active role in business development through client engagement and relationship building.
  • Demonstrate experience in leading or contributing to technical delivery, either through ownership of project elements or by mentoring and supporting other engineers.

Preferred Experience:

  • Chartered Engineer, or working towards chartership, with a strong track record in contributing to the technical delivery of large-scale structural design projects, ideally across bridges, structural steel, and reinforced concrete.
  • Strong technical expertise across the assessment, inspection, and analysis of existing structures, as well as new-build design.
  • Proficient in structural engineering software such as Tedds, Robot, and/or Midas.
  • Prior exposure to rail projects is beneficial, but not essential - we welcome applications from engineers from other sectors with relevant structural experience.
  • Experience in bridge design and/or temporary works is advantageous; candidates with broader structural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • Exposure to Contractor Engineering Manager (CEM) responsibilities across design would be beneficial, although this is not essential.
  • Confident in client-facing environments, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The permanent right to work in the UK, alongside relevant UK project experience.
