About the Role

Our Cross Reach Counselling volunteers work across a range of specialities and locations, delivering services face‑to‑face, online and over the phone.

Our team delivers high‑quality counselling to clients when they need it most, while maintaining high professional and ethical standards.

As a volunteer counsellor with Cross Reach, you will provide a professional counselling service to a small caseload of clients (usually 2–4).

In‑person counselling takes place at our Regional Office in Inverness, located at Cameron House.

We provide the necessary training and guidance, ongoing support, and group supervision.

Responsibilities

You will manage a caseload of clients, deliver counselling services, maintain accurate case records, and participate in supervision and professional development activities.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Diploma in counselling completed or in progress with readiness to practise.
  • Minimum of 50 clinical hours for perinatal services.
  • Completed ACTO‑approved online training course if delivering online counselling.
  • Availability to support a caseload of clients and attend supervision.
  • Willingness to provide contact details of an external supervisor.

Cross Reach Counselling is a member of COSCA and adheres to its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice.

Practitioners must be qualified/registered with a recognised professional body (BACP, COSCA, BAAT or UKCP) or be in the process of gaining qualification.

  • Be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and complete the required vetting checks.
  • Be registered with SSSC.
  • Confirm entitlement to work in the UK.
