Where local opportunities are limited, we make sure there are other ways to learn, gain life skills, and stay on track, always working with each young person at their own pace.
As a Support Practitioner working night shifts, you will help ensure children and young people feel safe, supported and reassured throughout the night. Working as part of a supportive team, you will help maintain a calm and stable environment while responding to individual needs and ensuring wellbeing and safety. You will play an important role in monitoring the environment overnight, providing reassurance where needed and ensuring clear communication with colleagues to support consistent care.
What your night could look like:
- Providing a calm and safe environment for children and young people overnight
- Carrying out regular checks to ensure wellbeing, comfort and safety
- Offering reassurance and support if a child or young person wakes during the night
- Responding appropriately to any incidents, concerns or changes in wellbeing
- Maintaining clear and accurate overnight records
- Preparing the service for the day ahead and completing handovers for colleagues
- Following safeguarding procedures and organisational policies at all times
- Working night shifts as part of a rota
About you:
You will bring patience, empathy and a calm approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people to feel safe and secure. You will understand the importance of maintaining a stable and reassuring environment overnight while remaining alert and responsive. Experience working with children, young people or within a care environment is helpful but not essential, as full training and support will be provided. You will have good communication skills, the ability to work independently during night shifts and confidence using IT systems for recording and communication. You must be registered with the SSSC or be willing to register. You will be supported to achieve the required qualifications, including HNC Social Care and SVQ Level 3, within the registration period. You will also be required to join the PVG Scheme.
