The Elms is a specialist residential care home in Edinburgh's Grange area, supporting older people living with dementia. Set within the extensive grounds of a Victorian mansion, the home provides a safe, comfortable and familiar environment where personalised care is shaped around each resident's individual needs and preferences. Respecting residents' dignity, choices and rights is central to everyday life, helping people feel valued, supported and involved in decisions about their care.

As a Bank Care Worker with CrossReach, you'll help maintain high standards of care by providing additional support when our services need it.

You'll provide practical and personal care, help people maintain their independence and contribute to continuity of care. Joining our bank team gives you the freedom to choose shifts that suit your availability, while playing an important role in delivering quality care across our services.

What you will do

  • Provide personal care and support with everyday activities.
  • Assist with meals, mobility, routines and individual wellbeing.
  • Encourage independence and respect people's choices and preferences.
  • Follow individual care plans and adapt your support to people's needs.
  • Build positive relationships with the people you support and your colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate any changes or concerns.

About you

You'll be reliable, adaptable and comfortable working with different people and routines. You'll communicate clearly, work well with colleagues and take a responsible approach to providing safe care.

Previous care experience is welcome, but it's not essential. We're interested in people who demonstrate patience, good judgement and a genuine willingness to learn. If you don't already hold an SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, you'll be supported to work towards achieving it as part of your development with CrossReach.

You'll need to be comfortable providing personal care and able to adapt to the needs of the service during the shifts you accept.

You'll also need to meet the relevant PVG and SSSC registration requirements.

Why work with us?

As part of the CrossReach bank team, you'll make an important contribution to maintaining quality care when additional staffing support is needed. You'll be joining an organisation that values compassion, respect and the individuality of every person receiving support.

CrossReach has been at the forefront of high quality social care for over 150 years, providing loving care to people of all ages and supporting them to live life to the full whatever their circumstances. During that time, we have worked hard to understand the needs of the people who turn to us for help and with them have been at the forefront of pioneering services which have literally changed thousands of lives for the better.

Today we are one of the largest social care providers in Scotland, with experience across a broad range of services. We are still growing, learning, and improving, thanks to the incredible people we have the privilege to support, and all those who support us. We are part of the Church of Scotland and aim to provide social care services and specialist resources in Christ’s name to further the caring work of the Church to people in challenging circumstances.

As we do our work in Christ’s name you must be respectful of our Christian Ethos and be able to work within it.

This post requires you to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and undertake the necessary vetting checks. You will also be required to be registered with SSSC and it is your professional responsibility to ensure that you meet the standards and criteria for registration.

We have a legal obligation to ensure that we do not employ any worker who has not been granted the relevant permission to work in the UK. This permission is without exception granted by UK Visas and Immigrations. We are required to check the entitlement to work in the UK of all prospective employees, regardless of nationality or job category.

We are committed to ensuring that we attract, retain, and develop the very best people to build a diverse and talented team and we recognise that every individual’s unique background, experience and ability contributes to our success. We aim to create an inclusive and inspiring environment where individuals feel valued and respected and where people can belong, thrive and be their very best, whoever they are.
