The Healthcare Assistant will support both the nursing and administrative teams in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care as part of the practice multidisciplinary team. Working within their scope of practice, the post holder will assist clinical staff in the delivery of treatments, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education to the entitled patient population. The role also includes providing flexible support to the administrative team as required, helping ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. This is a varied and rewarding position that plays a key part in maintaining high standards of care and supporting positive patient experiences across the service.
Main duties of the job
- The Healthcare Assistant provides clinical and supportive care to patients in both practice and domiciliary settings.
- Duties include undertaking patient health checks, observations, venipuncture, ECGs, wound care, and health promotion, supporting nurses with clinics and chronic disease management, and visiting housebound patients.
- The role also involves maintaining safe, well-stocked clinical environments, managing specimens, and ensuring infection prevention and safety standards are followed.

Crossley Street Surgery is a progressive, four-partner GP practice serving a semi-rural population of around 12,000 patients from modern, purpose-built premises in Wetherby. We are a teaching and training practice, hosting GP registrars and FY2 doctors throughout the year. Our well-established multi-disciplinary team includes: Salaried GPs and GP registrars, Clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians (PCN team), An in-house pharmacy, A dedicated paramedic team supporting home visits, A dedicated Management Team, A dedicated Data Quality and Patient Services team. We operate using SystmOne and AccuRx Total Triage, with 15-minute appointments to support safe, high-quality clinical care. The practice is part of the Wetherby Primary Care Network and actively engages in new models of care.
Job responsibilities
To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education whilst also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.

- New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse

- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
