In this pivotal position, you will be at the forefront of designing and executing sophisticated reinsurance solutions that create significant value for both our clients and our company. You will balance technical expertise with strategic thinking to deliver exceptional results in a fast-paced environment.
Your primary responsibility in this role will be to drive the EMEA Life and Health transaction success story, by:
- Strategic solution leadership - Drive the creation of innovative, tailor-made reinsurance structures that address complex client needs while optimizing company risk appetite and market positioning.
- Advanced financial modeling - Oversee the development of sophisticated Excel-based financial models and deliver high-impact analytics that shape strategic decision-making.
- Expert actuarial interpretation - Provide authoritative assessment of key drivers of financial performance in life insurance portfolios with exceptional precision.
- Transaction leadership - Independently lead complex deals from origination to treaty signature, orchestrating internal and external partners, managing critical timetables, and developing strategic documentation for approval processes.
- Executive stakeholder management - Apply advanced communication and negotiation skills to influence senior stakeholders and drive consensus in challenging environments.
- Strategic cross-functional leadership - Direct collaboration with Client Markets, Business Development, and Financial Markets teams to develop market-leading presentations and client solutions.
- Team development - Mentor and develop team members, fostering professional growth and building organizational capability.
- Market strategy ownership - Take full responsibility for transaction targets in key EMEA markets by defining strategy, pioneering new solutions, and cultivating high-level external networks.
This is an exciting position offering excellent opportunities to play a key role in high impact transactions and developing both a deep technical knowledge of structured solutions in life and health and a very wide range of soft skills. You will gain extensive exposure to senior and executive management of Swiss Re and build a valuable professional network.
You will join the diverse and knowledgeable team LHSS, which is part of the Life and Health Underwriting Office. We provide non-traditional life reinsurance solutions via structured reinsurance & capital management transactions to L&H clients. The global LHSS team is comprised of over 40 professionals, in various locations including Zurich, London, New York, Toronto, Hong Kong and Singapore. While the majority are actuaries, a wide variety of professional backgrounds are represented.
You will work extensively with colleagues in many different areas, in particular Client Markets, Business Development, Financial market, Legal and the different L&H teams both throughout EMEA and globally. We are motivated, optimistic, technicians and innovators, finding new solutions to bring more value to Swiss Re and to our clients!
You excel both strong technical skills with big-picture strategic thinking. Your innovative approach and attention to detail enable you to model bespoke, creative transactions—often where no blueprints exist—in a result-driven, deadline-intensive environment. You have a track record of delivering excellent results even under high time pressure.
You are motivated, proactive and ready to challenge the status quo, combining strategic mindset with strong sense of collaboration. As an excellent communicator, you can translate complex concepts into clear, concise explanations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualified actuary or finance professional with 10+ years of experience in transactions, reinsurance, capital management or financial market risk. Excellent ability to interpret actuarial model output with regards to drivers of surplus emerging and other financials drivers of life insurance portfolios. Expert in cash flow modeling. Strong understanding of financial instruments, balance sheet impacts, and capital management concepts (funding, ALM, CoC). Strong knowledge of risk-based capital, Solvency II and IFRS frameworks. Experience in structuring complex L&H transactions. Strong transaction management skills. Strong knowledge of some of the core EMEA markets in respect of underlying products, clients, regulatory regimes and transaction activity is a plus. Experience in C-suite dialogue. Advanced negotiation skills with proven ability to influence across functions and geographies. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with German or French preferred. Additional European languages would be advantageous.
For London, the base salary range for this position is between GBP 96,000 and GBP 144,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, as well as the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience. In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based bonus. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
