About the Role
As our Senior Reinsurance Contracts Counsel, you'll be the designated legally qualified authority for complex reinsurance contract structures, ensuring regulatory compliance, enforceability, and legal risk mitigation. You'll provide definitive legal interpretation and guidance while representing Swiss Re in external market forums.
Key Responsibilities
- Independent Legal Accountability - Act as the legally qualified sign-off authority for complex and high-value reinsurance contracts, providing definitive legal interpretation under applicable law.
- Complex Contract Structuring - Lead the structuring and negotiation of legally complex, multi-jurisdictional reinsurance agreements while identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks.
- Regulatory Governance - Own alignment of contract wordings with applicable UK and international regulatory frameworks and develop contract governance standards.
- Strategic Market Representation - Represent Swiss Re in external market forums, industry associations, and regulatory discussions, influencing market-standard contract language.

The Reinsurance Contracts function at Swiss Re plays a critical role in ensuring the legal integrity and compliance of our complex reinsurance agreements. Our team navigates heightened regulatory oversight and increasing complexity in multi-jurisdictional contract structures, providing legally accountable oversight for reinsurance contracts in the London market. We work collaboratively with Product Centre teams and Underwriting teams to design and implement robust contract frameworks that protect Swiss Re's interests while facilitating business growth.

Requirements
- Fully qualified England & Wales lawyer with 5+ years' experience either within a re/insurance company or in private practice specializing in re/insurance.
- Deep expertise in drafting, negotiating, and interpreting complex reinsurance contract wordings.
- Strong knowledge of UK and international regulatory frameworks relevant to the London market.
- Proven experience handling multi-jurisdictional legal matters and high-value, complex transactions.
- Strong ability to identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks within contract structures.
- Experience engaging with industry bodies, regulatory discussions, or market forums.
Compensation & Work Model
For the United Kingdom, the base salary range for this position is between £100,000 and £150,000 for a full-time role. The specific salary offered considers the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, as well as the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience. In the situation where you do not meet all the requirements or you significantly exceed these, the offered salary may be below or above the advertised range. In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based annual bonus. Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
