Reporting directly to the UK Operations Director, you will manage a geographically dispersed team of Field Engineers, Depot Operators, and Driver Installers to deliver exceptional service, operational efficiency, safety, and compliance. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will drive productivity, optimise resource deployment, build high-performing teams, and embody our core values of Respect, Accountability, Teamwork, Commitment, and Integrity.
About Cross Rental Services:
Cross Rental Services is the UK & Ireland’s leading specialist asset rental business, delivering cutting-edge HVAC, refrigeration and catering hire solutions. Having experienced significant growth over the past 10 years, our team operates across multiple UK sites in a fast-paced, operationally complex environment. We are relentlessly focused on our customers and take pride in long-term partnerships with some of the country’s leading retailers, government bodies, facilities managers and process manufacturers. Our critical solutions enable them to achieve their own goals with peace of mind that they are supported in all their HVAC and refrigeration requirements. Guided by our core values—Respect, Accountability, Teamwork, Commitment, and Integrity—we offer a dynamic workplace where innovation and impact thrive.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead, coach, and develop field-based teams to achieve daily targets, Right First Time (RFT) standards, and acceptable quality levels.
- Optimise daily engineer deployment for installations, deinstallations, maintenance, and service activities; coordinating with Boiler / Chiller Engineers, Depot Operators and Driver Installers.
- Oversee resource management – ensuring teams have the right PPE, tools, training, certifications, and equipment; maintain accurate hire fleet records and uphold depot standards.
- Conduct regular site visits, audits (van stock, vehicle inspections, paperwork checks), and in-depth reviews of daily debriefs to identify issues, resolve problems, and prevent RFT failures.
- Drive continuous improvement – identify challenges, develop solutions, implement action plans, and foster a culture of safety, quality, and innovation in line with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.
- Manage people performance – create and review Personal Development Plans (PDPs), lead inductions, deliver coaching, and role-model the behaviours expected in our high-performance culture.
- Collaborate closely with the Technical Team, Regional Sales Managers, and clients on complex projects, site surveys, pre-installation planning, and long-term relationship building.
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, environmental, and company policies at all times.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven operations management experience in engineering, ideally within HVAC, temporary hire, or business-to-business service environments.
- Relevant qualifications (any of the following highly desirable): Gas Safe, OFTEC, F-Gas, 18th Edition, COCN1, CIGA1, CDGA1, COCNPI1LS, ICPN1, ICAE1.
- Strong people leadership skills with experience managing geographically dispersed teams.
- Hands-on approach with a track record of driving productivity, resource optimisation, and Right First Time performance.
- Analytical mindset – able to assess data from multiple sources, identify root causes, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions.
- Proficient IT skills for operational systems, reporting, and asset tracking.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally.
- Passion for customer service excellence, safety-first culture, and continuous improvement.
Our Mission:
- We are customer centric. That means we provide excellent and agile service, which is right first time, every time.
- We are trusted partners. That means our customers trust us to work with them to solve complex engineering problems with precision.
- We are innovators. That means we use our expertise to grow our business, constantly looking for opportunity to innovate and improve.
- We are one team. We aim to grow talent by fostering pride and passion in the business, developing our people through education and having fun.
