The HR Advisor will provide high-quality HR support across the school, ensuring effective recruitment, robust safeguarding compliance, and efficient employee lifecycle administration. Working closely with the HR Director, the role supports both teaching and support staff and contributes to a safe, compliant, and people-focused school environment.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Recruitment and Compliance
- Coordinate external and internal recruitment processes across the school, including preparing and posting adverts, shortlisting administration, scheduling and booking interviews, liaising with candidates, and conducting safeguarding interviews.
- Organise supply staff in liaison with the teacher in charge of cover.
- Ensure all pre-employment checks are completed to the required standard in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) for staff, contractors and volunteers.
- Maintain and update the school’s Single Central Record (SCR), ensuring accuracy and compliance at all times.
- Create, review and monitor DBS risk assessments in line with the school’s safer recruitment policy.
- Implement and maintain a DBS renewal and monitoring system.
- Advise managers on safer recruitment practices and compliance requirements.
- Draft offer letters, contracts of employment and contracts for services.
- Employee Lifecycle and HR Administration
- Submit accurate and timely information to payroll in line with agreed deadlines, including new starters, contractual changes and leavers.
- Coordinate onboarding, including arranging ID cards, IT equipment and conducting HR inductions for new staff.
- Oversee and maintain records of support staff appraisals and probations, identifying themes or development needs and proposing targeted support within the CPD budget.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date staff records on iSAMS and the HR system.
- Draft HR correspondence, including (but not limited to): maternity leave, shared parental leave, probation letters, changes to terms and conditions, loan letters, and leaver correspondence.
- Work with the HR Director and the Executive Assistant to the Head to respond to reference requests promptly and appropriately.
- Maintain comprehensive paper and electronic personnel files in accordance with data protection requirements.
- Support the HR Director with Subject Access Requests and management information requests as required.
- HR Casework
- Under the supervision of the HR Director, undertake HR casework relating to teaching and support staff, escalating matters as appropriate, including disciplinary matters, capability procedures, grievances, restructures and consultations.
Working Hours and Arrangement
Term time: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday
School holidays: 9:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
This is an all‑year, permanent position working during both term time and school holidays. Occasional Saturday mornings and evening work may be required. The role is onsite during term time. During school holidays, hybrid working is available (3 days onsite / 2 days working from home).
