Bank Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiology) at Cromwell Hospital, Kensington, SW5. Support on-call rota and provide occasional weekday evening cover as required. Competitive hourly rate.

About the Department: Small but dynamic departments requiring high levels of personal professionalism and self-motivation. Complete clinical diagnostics from routine tests to complex investigations. Join our Clinical Physiology team to deliver a high-quality comprehensive clinical neurophysiological service for all age groups. This entails delivery of core investigations which include electroencephalography (EEG), Video-Telemetry (VT), and Evoked potentials (including Visual Evoked Potentials to Pattern/Flash stimulation, Somatosensory Evoked Potentials with both lower and upper stimulation, and Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials).

As a bank member, you will be involved on an ad hoc basis and will be expected to contribute to clinical governance, local quality improvements, and act as a representative for the department for consultants, their secretaries, and other stakeholders.

Who we’re looking for: You will have a high level of expertise and be familiar with all clinical functions of the Neurophysiology and Lung & Sleep Departments. You will have a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology or equivalent formal specialist training, as well as current ILS certification.

About the Role: To deliver a high-quality comprehensive clinical neurophysiological service through the management of clinical governance, performance management, information governance, and specific development of the neurophysiology service established in the delivery of neurophysiology services in a wide range of neurological conditions to patients of all age groups. Quality improvement within post is implied, aligning with nationally recognised guidelines for best professional practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continually monitor and maintain the delivery of high-quality Neurophysiological services to service users, including referring consultants, general practitioners, and patients.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure services meet changing healthcare needs.
  • Manage provision of offsite services to other institutions or organisations with no access to Neurophysiology services.
  • Provide visible support and assistance to Neurophysiological staff in dealing with difficult and conflicting situations, including those that are of a clinical/professional nature.
  • Draft standard operating procedures in alignment with professional guidelines (IFCN/ANS).
  • Plan, perform, and interpret a range of basic and advanced Neurophysiological investigations to a high level of competence to patients unsupervised and autonomously, adapting the procedure wherever necessary to increase the sensitivity and specificity of a recording procedure.
  • Perform Electroencephalographic (EEG) investigations employing current standard techniques without supervision in the EEG laboratory, taking appropriate actions where necessary.
  • Perform emergency EEGs on ITUs, NNUs, PICUs, or general wards and take appropriate actions where necessary.
  • Perform EEG investigations using specialist techniques, including recordings with activation procedures, sleep deprivation, administration of medication, and other provocative procedures.
  • Take medical history from a patient pertinent to the investigation being performed.
  • Analyse and utilise the gathered information to plan, perform, and implement testing procedures.
  • Ability to participate in the on-call Rota is desirable, but not essential.
