About the Role
We are currently recruiting a Band 5/6 Ophthalmic Nurse (RGN) to join the Eye Emergency Department at Southmead Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a specialist ophthalmic service, providing urgent eye care to both adult and paediatric patients.
You will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality patient care in a busy clinical environment.
- What You’ll Do
- Assess and triage adult and paediatric ophthalmic patients
- Conduct face-to-face and telephone assessments
- Perform slit lamp examinations (or undertake training if required)
- Deliver treatment under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and clinical guidelines
- Support the management of acutely unwell patients
- Contribute to achieving the 4-hour patient pathway target
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation
- Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care
- What You’ll Need
- Valid NMC Registration
- Previous experience within Ophthalmology or Eye Emergency services (preferred)
- Slit lamp examination competency or willingness to undertake training
- Strong assessment and triage skills
- Excellent communication and clinical decision-making abilities
- Up-to-date mandatory training and compliance documentation
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
