Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Band 5 Registered Nurse – ICU / ITU to join one of our NHS clients in Devon. This role involves delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and advanced life support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in ICU / ITU settings
- Monitor, assess, and document patients’ clinical conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment
- Manage patients requiring advanced respiratory support, including ventilated patients
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and other prescribed treatments safely and accurately
- Recognise and respond promptly to patient deterioration and emergency situations
- Operate and manage specialist ICU equipment, including ventilators, infusion pumps, and monitoring devices
- Work collaboratively with consultants, doctors, and the multidisciplinary team
- Maintain accurate, clear, and up-to-date patient records in line with NHS and NMC standards
- Ensure infection prevention and control policies are strictly followed
- Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and their families
Requirements
Essential:
- Valid NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Previous ICU / ITU experience within an NHS or equivalent acute care setting
- Evidence of up-to-date Statutory and Mandatory (Stat & Man) training
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced critical care environment
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Desirable:
- Experience caring for ventilated and critically ill patients
- Tracheostomy care and management experience
- Knowledge of critical care protocols and equipment
