King Edward VII's Hospital is a 56‑bed private hospital in Marylebone with four operating theatres, delivering consultant‑led care across elective, day‑case, and inpatient surgery. We provide a broad range of planned elective and day‑case surgeries across its four operating theatres, with a focus on high‑quality, consultant‑led private care. Surgical services include orthopaedic procedures, women's health and gynaecology, urology, and general surgery. The hospital also delivers endoscopy and diagnostic procedures, ophthalmic surgery, dermatology and minor surgery, with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, efficient patient pathways, and rapid recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team.
- Participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care.
- Assist in the positioning and preparation of a patient as directed by the surgical team.
- Help to control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis.
- Participate in induction and orientation programmes for new staff.
- Prepare patients for clinical/operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery.
- Provide assistance in clinical/operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery.
- Provide initial emergency care as required.
- Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of an advanced practitioner.
- Ensure all equipment is checked prior to use and any faults reported to the Theatre Co-ordinator.
- Participate fully as a team member, including working in all areas of the theatre suite.
- Adhere to the procedures for the use of supplies, ordering requirements for the Department.
- Ensure the accurate collection of data in relation to theatre activity.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
- Maintain the safe custody and handling of drugs in accordance with hospital policy.
Key Skills / Qualifications:
- RN - 1ST level Registration Adult and/or Children.
- Diploma or Degree in Health Care Studies.
- ODP Level 3 NVQ ODA 752.
- Minimum of 5 years hospital Scrub experience is essential.
- Experienced in major orthopaedics - Hips, Knees, Arthroplasty.
- Evidence of Professional and Personal Development.
