Resident Medical Officer (RMO) – Adult Intensive Care Unit, Cromwell Hospital, London

Salary: Β£76,000 per year β€’ 30 hours per week

Shifts: 08:00–20:00 (short days); 20:00–08:00 (short nights); 08:00–08:00 (long days)

The department seeks an anaesthetic or Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) speciality doctor or trainee to join the ICU and develop clinical skills in a supportive, collaborative environment. The department emphasises teaching and quality improvement.

You will join a team of 5 full-time RMOs and expected to fulfil 120 hours per month (shifts 24h or 12h).

Main duties of the job

  • Manage day-to-day care of ICU patients in conjunction with the Intensive Care consultant.
  • Participate in daily ward rounds with the MDT and an evening/holiday/weekend round.
  • Review and assess direct referrals to ICU or via Outreach.
  • Develop and update administrative and clinical protocols.
  • Engage in education programmes, journal club, continuing professional development.
  • Participate in hospital quality improvement action plan and adverse incident/sentinel event reporting; attend Morbidity and Mortality Meetings.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Good spoken and written English; broad training in Intensive Care Medicine.
  • Ability to manage acutely unwell and deteriorating patients; provide end-of-life care when appropriate.
  • Interest in research; ability to develop personal research projects; present at conferences.
  • Strong analytical skills; teamwork; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Experience as an RMO in ICU (as described in the job overview).
  • Willingness to participate in continuing professional development and attend Journal Club, internal seminars, clinical audits, and morbidity/mortality meetings.
