For almost half a century, Crohn's & Colitis UK has been the leading charity for people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Every year, 25,000 people in the UK are told they have Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis: incurable, unpredictable, life-changing conditions that are on the rise. That diagnosis – which can take years – is just the beginning. Finding a treatment that works is often a long road and many end up needing surgery.

At Crohn's & Colitis UK we have built a strong community, supporting those who are affected by the conditions and connecting patient advocates, researchers and expert clinicians. We are bringing people together every day and we can work together to help us set out the roadmap to a cure. There is still a long way to go, but as awareness of Crohn's and Colitis has grown, so have we. As we move towards a brighter future at pace, we are looking for an ambitious new Head of DDaT to join our Senior Executive Team.

This new role will lead the charity’s supporter care, digital, data and technology functions, shaping how technology is used to deliver impact, enhance supporter experience and build operational resilience. The role oversees in house digital platforms, data systems and the Supporter Care team, and manages relationships with external IT partners to maintain a robust, secure and reliable technology infrastructure. The Head of DDaT will play a central part in developing and delivering the digital, data and technology strategy, ensuring data, digital tools and technology are used effectively and efficiently to support the charity’s mission.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a digital, data and technology strategy aligned with the charity’s vision, overseeing its implementation with clear success measures and reporting, and leading horizon scanning for new and emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning and personalisation tools.
  • Advise and act as a business partner to the senior leadership team and trustees on digital and technology opportunities, risks and investments, and will champion digital innovation and data‑informed decision making across the organisation, supporting colleagues to make best use of available technology.
  • Lead relevant programmes within the Department, ensuring appropriate project management tools and methodologies are used to hit milestones and deliver to time and budget.
  • Oversee organisational data management and compliance (including GDPR and data protection best practice), working closely with the Head of Finance and Governance to ensure accuracy and alignment.
  • Lead our Data Team to ensure our CRM, databases and integrations are effectively managed, accurate, and accessible for reporting.

The successful applicant will have proven experience of leading digital, data and/or technology functions, with direct experience of managing websites, digital platforms and content management systems. They will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of managing outsourced IT providers, contracts and budgets in a way that maximises organisational impact. They will also have experience of embedding digital skills and supporting cultural change across an organisation.

The post holder will demonstrate a clear commitment to Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s vision, values, policies and procedures, and to equality, diversity and inclusion. They will be flexible and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where the organisation needs to adapt to constant change.
