The Accounts Assistant will support the finance function by preparing small company accounts and maintaining accurate bookkeeping records. This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, and a solid understanding of basic accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accounts for small companies, including sole traders and limited companies
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Reconcile bank accounts and control accounts
- Assist with VAT return preparation and submissions
- Support month-end and year-end processes
- Liaise with clients to obtain financial information and resolve queries
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
- Maintain organised and up-to-date financial records
Key Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role
- Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
- Experience preparing small company accounts (desirable but not essential depending on level)
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good Excel skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
