Overview

In this client-side role, you assume technical ownership of the overhead catenary system (OCS) for a major high-speed rail programme. You will lead the technical assurance of OCS design, setting standards for the contractor and ensuring installation meets programme requirements. You’ll coordinate across disciplines, contribute to governance and peer reviews, and drive best practice to improve consistency and efficiency. The ideal candidate brings high-speed OCS experience and a strong grasp of interoperability, enabling you to shape the system integration across the broader railway network. This is a unique opportunity to influence a flagship project with significant technical and governance

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical assurance of OCS design and set standards for contractors
  • Provide professional leadership across the OCS discipline
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated railway systems
  • Participate in governance processes including peer reviews and stage gate assurance
  • Develop best practice and drive consistency and efficiency across delivery
  • Support integration throughout the life cycle from design to construction assurance

Key requirements

  • Overhead catenary or OLE engineering on large-scale, high-speed rail programmes
  • Experience on international or cross-border projects showing differences from UK Network Rail standards
  • Strong understanding of interoperability standards and how OCS/OLE fit with wider railway systems
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering programmes with cost and schedule pressures
  • Familiarity with Common Safety Method for risk evaluation and UK CDM regulations
  • Ability to communicate clearly with contractors, colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • Experience across full lifecycle from requirements and design through to construction assurance (preferred)
  • Background spanning more than one railway system or national context (preferred)
