A London Local Authority is recruiting for an experienced Traffic Project Engineer to lead and manage a programme of highways capital projects from detailed design through to implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a portfolio of highways capital projects, ensuring effective project management, high-quality design, and robust contractor performance during delivery.
- Provide expert technical input into contract specifications, commissioning, tendering processes, and ongoing contractor management.
- Act as Project Sponsor and ensure full compliance with the Council’s Road Safety Audit process.
- Fulfil the duties of Principal Designer in accordance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage project and programme budgets, ensuring effective financial control.
- Manage and oversee a wide range of contractors, consultants, and temporary staff, including the Council’s term highways contractor.
- Represent the Council at senior-level forums and work closely with local communities and residents’ groups to support service development, public engagement, and issue resolution.

- Proven experience delivering highways capital projects within a Local Authority setting.
- Strong project and programme management skills, including contractor and financial management.
- Sound knowledge of Road Safety Audits and CDM Regulations.
- Ability to operate confidently at a senior stakeholder level.
